Pacific Karate Do Institute was founded by David Krieger sensei in Montecito, CA 1974, Pacific refers orientation towards life.
"The Pacific ocean is the greatest of the World oceans translate in meaning serene and harmony, It links the West with the East; were Karate was born and nourished and the west were Karate has been trans-planted, continues to thrive and grow. At the same time the Pacific is broad deep, powerful, serene in harmony; as an orientation toward harmony in life. Pacific refers to a peaceful state of deep serenity that connects to Karate; It's a fitting adjective to describe Karate at its best, even though many people continue to treat Karate as brutal aggressive and mean. The value of Karate lies what can do to achive its best for the individual. To provide a mean person with new forms of brutality is hardly an accomplishment in a world where far more potent wepons than empty hands are readily available; but, to provide an average person with the means to gain both power and serenity and control in his, her, own life, is an achievement of great value and goal of the Pacific Karate Do Institute" (PKI HANDBOOK p1).
